Position Overview

We are on the lookout for a Director of People & Culture who shares our commitment to building great relationships, dedication to service, and champions the well-being of our team members. Reporting directly to the President, this role will create initiatives that shape our culture and empower our people. It is both a strategic and tactical position, involving oversight and execution of people initiatives. The ideal person has a positive attitude, is enthusiastic about driving culture with leaders, and is comfortable working with people from production shop floor to the VP-level.

Duties & Responsibilities

This position is a blend of traditional human resources with a modern approach towards people and culture. Key responsibilities include:

Leadership & Strategy

  • Establish people & culture goals, identify key strategic issues that need to be addressed and set objects and plans for Woodtone’s people function.
  • Provide effective counsel to the President on all issues related to people.
  • Share people & culture insights and experiences to support the overall organization.
  • Liaise with leaders and staff on people & culture initiatives.

Human Resources

  • Work with President and other leadership team members, formulating annual and long-range plans for P&C programs, ensuring alignment with strategic goals. This includes annual goal setting, succession planning and talent development.
  • Lead the development, revision, recommendation and evaluation of policies and guidelines as it relates to people. Ensure policies are aligned with industry best practices and cultural values and communicated effectively to team.
  • Ensure legal compliance for all people related functions in Canada and USA.
  • Support compensation changes, advise on cost-of-living and merit increases and develop compensation strategies to support organizational goals.
  • Develop strategies around employee engagement, rewards, recognition, and culture development.
  • Provide daily advice and support on queries related to people, from best practices to legalities (disability leave, accommodation, diversity & equality, employment law etc.)

Employee Relations

  • Drive employee relations initiatives with warmth and genuine concern, creating safe spaces where every voice is heard and valued.
  • Support managers with performance documentation (letters of expectation, PIPs, annual reviews and disciplines). Provide coaching and partnership in preparing for difficult conversations that will help us grow and improve.
  • Provide advice and assistance to all levels of the organization, as it relates to performance management and conflict resolution. Coach and mentor with care and authenticity.
  • Conduct or support internal investigations, complaints, conflict management and employees concerns as required.

Recruitment

  • Work with senior leaders and hiring manager on identifying and sourcing top talent.
  • Manage full-cycle recruitment from job postings to final offer, providing an exceptional candidate experience and attracting individuals who embody our brand values.
  • Partner with teams for successful and smooth on-boarding, ensuring new staff are properly orientated to the team and company.

Talent Development

  • Lead and coordinate short & long-term training and development strategies, that are consistent with the organizational goals and objectives.
  • Work with leadership to ensure training events are scheduled, attended, and have measurable outcomes.
  • Collaborate with President on succession planning, and development for all levels of the organization, nurturing the next generation of leaders who will carry the brand forward.

Other Awesome Duties

  • Partner with marketing on social medias posts, communication, and employee celebrations/milestones.
  • Lead the Culture Team, with a focus on events for staff at work and within the community. This includes in-house competitions, games, seasonal celebrations, and company retreat planning.
  • Be creative with managers and leaders on how to create an engaging environment and celebrate employee milestones and achievements.

Qualifications

Knowledge & Education

  • 10+ years of human resource experience, preferably in an environment where there was focus on high-performance, employee engagement and strong organizational values.
  • Post-secondary education in human resources, psychology or related field.
  • CPHR, SHRM-SCP or other accreditations are considered an asset.
  • Experience in building material, manufacturing, industrial construction, or comparable industry is considered an asset.

Abilities & Skills

  • Confidence in your ability to build meaningful relationships at all levels of the organization. Team-first mindset that you share with others.
  • Ability to interpret and advise on BC employment standards and US state law (Washington).
  • Ability to be creative and strategic, while willing and able to be hands-on enough to dive into the details.
  • Ability to secure agreements and progression towards sometimes difficult concepts, approaches, policies, and programs.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to speak to a variety of audiences.
  • High integrity and respectful. Ethical, calm, supportive and confident.
  • Positive, upbeat, approachable, open, and friendly.
  • Highly organized, self-driven and able to prioritize workload.

 

Salary: $120,000 – $140,000
