In May 2019, 26 excited Woodtone employees participated in the annual Heart and Stroke Foundation’s “Big Bike” event. The event was held in downtown Chilliwack, on a beautiful, sunny Spring day. Volunteers from our team slipped into their bike shorts and bright orange Woodtone Team t-shirts and hopped on the 30-seater bike! The bike ride was a 20-minute tour around the downtown core; literally stopping traffic to support critical heart disease and stroke research. The looks one receives while pedaling down the main drag, shaking maracas and honking at passersby’s is reason enough to participate.
A Cause That Hits Home
We have all seen first-hand many cases of Heart & Stroke victims; from within our organizations to our close family and friends. It is very important for us to support our fellow co-workers, friends and family in any way possible. At Woodtone, staff members are encouraged to champion events to support charities that they are passionate about. Our People & Culture team helps to organize these events and get staff members out to support our local communities. Bryan Payne, our BC Regional Manager, was the lead team member for the “Big Bike” event and holds this charity close to heart. He committed his time to organizing team sign-up and raising donations for the company!
Woodtone values having staff participate in this kind of event, not only to raise money for a great cause but to have a fun team building experience as well. After the event, our team gathered for some appetizers and drinks at the local Earls to finish off the day. Sometimes it is nice to step out of the office; support a local charity and bond with peers.
